Understanding the Awkward Life.

How many of you have heard of the web series entitled The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl? I’m hoping all of you are raising a hand and chanting “meeee!” If not, you’ve come to the right place.

Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl, often referred to as ABG for short, is a series aired on youtube that is about the life of an young, awkward, black girl working for a company by the wonderful name of “Gut Busters,” good name huh? Well Issa Rae, who plays J, gives her point of view and commentary about everything that happens in her undexterous life. She annotates the struggle of finding a friend who is just as awkward as she, enduring the racist yet witless questions asked by her boss, and deciding which guy is right for her, all while attempting to not be so…awkward.

This series is one of those “you just have to be there” type of things in a sense that it is hard to explain but once you watch it, you won’t be able to turn away. Many people are raving about the show because it is easy to relate to. I recall watching the first season and realizing that there is something in every episode that I personally can relate to. So many problems that J faces are many of the same issues I have faced and am currently dealing with. And if you need any more confirmation that this show is awesome, Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. is a proud supporter of the web series that is sweeping the nation of youtube. He announced, right before the second season began last month, that he was going to be airing every episode on his youtube channel, i am OTHER. I would have to say that anything with Mr. Williams’ stamp of approval is worth watching, considering all flourishing projects he is involved with.

What was the point of sharing all this with you? Well, I suppose the point of this is to unite the #AwkwardNation, as said on twitter. This show is a great way to express the fact that being awkward is not always a curse. Because of this show, I am more comfortable with my awkward disposition and I have been able to freely embrace the fact that I say and do weird things, which is completely okay. So now I ask that you take just about ten more minutes to watch one my favorite ABG episodes and I guarantee that you will want to watch more.

ENJOY! and thanks for reading my blog 🙂
